About Spa
The town development has always been connected to healing effects of the local healing springs. At the beginning of the 19th century, as a result of hard work by Doctor Václav Payer of Loket, water of the Karlovy Vary springs is being also used for drinking cures. The present spa care includes drinking mineral water, traditional spa procedures and modern physiotherapy. Thirteen different mineral springs are used for drinking cures with temperature ranging from 42 °Celsius to 72 °Celsius; the most popular spring is “Vřídlo”(The Hot Spring) which gushes up to 15 meters in height.
The natural healing sources (hot mineral springs, natural carbon dioxide, healing mud, etc.) are used in combination with the most advanced medical methods for healing digestive system problems, metabolic dysfunctions, periodontal disease, diabetes mellitus and locomotor apparatus illnesses. Karlovy Vary are the most popular and visited spa in the Czech Republic
The healing tradition of Czech spas has led to raising a number of experts in the spa medicine in addition to doctors and other members of the staff (diet therapists, physiotherapists, masseurs, physiatrists). This permits even healthy people endangered by existence of the so-called civilization diseases within their family to take advantage of such experts’ knowledge and experience for their preventive stay together with special consulting
The aforesaid facts then naturally result in a conclusion that there exists at least three reasons there for a spay stay. One of them is a treatment of protracted illnesses as already stated. The same benefit may be gained from the spa stay together with procedures and experts’ consulting by those wanting to realize a targeted prevention of diseases caused by civilization. The spa environment combining a rest, active and passive relaxation and healing procedures along with recommendations provided by the experts is the best possible solution. And finally, even recreation and vacation in a spa may offer more than seemingly similar program offered by the most of travel agencies, nevertheless, most of the time, without any sufficient special setting.
